RetroEmu

Hey everyone. I would first of all like to say thank you for all the positive response towards my work and for all the bug reports.

For the record, I know I have been stated as saying use frameskip 3 to get good speed, but even without it it is faster than the previous snes emulator releases. I re-wrote parts of the renderer, I didn't just hike up frameskip and claim mine was faster. This might not be the case for every game and might not be by much, but it is faster.

Also I'm not doing this for a popularity stunt, or just to claim "mines better than yours". I am doing this because I love the Snes and want to see it emulated at proper speed on the PSP and was sad to see it abandoned. I do not claim to be the worlds greatest coder, or emulation guru. Like everyone else I am learning on a daily basis. Programming is a hobby for me, I don't do it for a living. I know there is a lot more work to be done, so please bear with me.

This build isn't really any faster than the previous one, it's mainly a stability release. I will be back to speed improvements in the next release.

Changes :

Quote

[+] Bug where you couldn't have more than 200 roms in the ROMS folder or the emulator would crash is now fixed. (I tested with 800 roms in there)

[+] Bug where the emulator would freeze then hard-power-off your PSP after trying to load more than 3 roms is now fixed. (I tried loading rom after rom at least 12 times with no issues)

[+] Bug where you couldn't return to the menu after running a game is now fixed. (thank god lol)

[+] Bug where emulator would hard-power-off PSP when exiting rather than return to the Xmb is now fixed (both in file menu and main menu)

[+] Bug where the emulator wouldn't start on Gen firmware fixed (tested by myself on 5.50GenC and Cmbeke on 5.50GenB)

[+] Possible minor speedups from code cleanup.

[+] Removed the intro screen for now. (will be configurable in the next build)

So that's it. It finally seems stable, I know this emulator has a bad rep for being terribly unstable but it really seems solid now.

I hope you enjoy this release and if you have any bugs please post them in the : Snes9X Euphoria - Official Forum

Note : To get the best performance I recommend the following settings :

Render : PSP Accelerated
Frameskip : 3 (frameskip @ 1 seems to be sufficient for most games to play at 60fps)

Note : The PSP Accelerated renderer can be buggy, it works fine in most games but certain games may have graphical errors which render them unplayable. If this happens I recommend switching to the PSP Accelerated + Aprox soft renderer.

Thanks!

If you downloaded the R2 release, please download the new R2.1 release as it fixes a bug with loading a new rom (it would crash the psp)

Awesome release Zack.
I noticed lots of changes with this build in the menu
building rom list and please wait look bigger and redone
I like the bigger font with bigger blue box.

[REQUEST] when loading a rom with circle would it be possible
to make the info it shows match the font and size of building rom list and please wait

I like the credits and version menu changes. It's good to have the site listed and it's an improvement over R1 build.

I notice the free ram is always 29209ko

I love having all my roms in 1 folder very awesome.
I'm loving this emu, no bugs to report so far :)

Thank you very much for you work. I've noticed major speedup in Mario RPG. It runs at 60fps with no frameskip most of the time and in most crowded screens fps drop reduced by 8 fps. Please, keep up the good work!

Hi there Zack..
I found a little bug on this new release: when I change PSP Accellerate to another engine, once I enter the menu screen, the emu return to PSP Accellerate..(O.o)
...but if I change it while in game it works fine..
this happened with Chrono Trigger and Mario Kart and I try only this titles by now..

Hi. Yeah it's not a bug it's just a ugly hack that temporarily gets rid of the bug that wouldn't allow you to return to the menu sometimes. I will be fixing it properly in the next release :)

Your welcome everyone.

Please let me know if you find any new bugs or re-occurrences of any of the ones I thought I fixed :D

Thanks Zack,

I downloaded it and test. But one thing I found for now, that there is "Please wait" if I push the home button. Thats nerving and in previous versions it was faster in the emulator-menu.
I´m sorry for my bad grammar.

First off thanks Zack. But I have some issues. I cannot get a rom to stay with PSP accel + approx soft. I can choose it to use that and the effects will actually work. But then if I go back into the options it says that it is still on just PSP Accelerated. So basically I can't get it to STICK with what I'm setting it as. Specifically try this with Starfox. Please take a look at the issues Starfox has and also Star Fox 2. I can get SF2 to load through a savestate to the main menu but then after I go in game shortly it crashes the emu. Could you look into that game (StarFox 2) when you can. I appreciate the effort and the work, thank you.

That just came out today and how will this help? I like to wait a few days before getting new firmware.

Strange, I can exit just fine. On Euphoria R1 on Gen-B2 and now on R2.1 on GEN-D2, all fine.

The delay in Home is about 3-4 seconds, it only gets irritating when I'm playing a game that I save a LOT of save states, haha ! Some are really hard !

It would be nice if there was a shortcut button for savestate that would save at the last slot or something, without asking. Maybe some trigger+select or something.

Also, the SRAM autosave should be enabled by default, I got burned due to a freeeze !

All these menu annoyances will be fixed with R3.

I am completely redoing the GUI.
Arcile has made all the Graphics for it.

Hi all; i wonder why the most "features" add for the next release seem to be for "aesthetic", why don't you add some real improvment for this?

That all...

sorry for my bad language, i'm french, so I grumble :D

keep up the good works!

[edit] MaUIbOy : I cant exit the emulator i am on 5.50gen-b2

It's an old bug, it's when your change the graphical engine, check that you are on psp accelerated, and now you can have an access to the menu.

oups i've also forget zack, please check here : http://www.dcemu.co....read.php?t=9172 there are many background that you can use...

@killed89
Look here, Zack explained the goals for this release :
http://www.retroemu....nd-competition/

The improvements are big nonetheless, current GUI is glitchy.

@ Zack
What emulation core version of snes9x is the current Euphoria based on ?

Ok, thanx! so we don't have to expect for some "real" improvement from "euphoria", even if the previous release (snes9xtyl me) was ugly, glitchy it's came with many features...

http://snes9x.ipherswipsite.com/ <- Source code for 1.51, if it's could help.

have a good day!
